Dendrolimus sibiricus partially stopped in the Bakcharskoe forest district

Officers of forest protection department – VNIILM priority bio-technology center conduct studies at Tomskaaya region since May 17 this year specifically  at Dendrolimus sibiricus mass outbreak in the Barcharskoye forest district.

Initially the population age structure was identified. Estimates proved that the “Roslesozashita” Tomsk branch experts were correct in identification of 3rd-4th age stages for prevailing part of caterpillars in the population. Only 2% of caterpillars managed to molt into 5th age.

ON May 17 -19 low temperature background led to that caterpillars didn’t feed waiting for warming in crowns or  on stems. Conducted treatments with clonrin preparation showed that due to apparent knockdown impact most caterpillars dropped in ground litter.

In its turn in stationary conditions experiments to identify caterpillar mortality levels both due to combined intestinal-contact impacts and separately intestinal and contact impacts were established.

In parallel researchers study lepidocide bacterial preparation impacts and test bitobakciline on Dendrolimus sibiricus caterpillars.

VNIILM officers also estimate final caterpillar mortality as a result of industrial protective treatments.
